The Hotel Drei Raben stands on the Annenstraße, the straight axis that links the main station with the city centre. The house sits on the western half of that axis, closer to the station than to the Mur. The Annenstraße is a shopping street with many small, often internationally run shops, takeaways and phone shops — busy by day, and anyone expecting a prestigious address should know that in advance.

Day to day the location is above all a question of direction. To the west the main station is walkable, and trams stop at Esperantoplatz and at the station. To the east the Annenstraße runs straight to the Mur and on into the old town; that is a long walk, but a flat and simple one throughout. All around there are supermarkets, international grocers and a row of restaurants serving regional, Sri Lankan and African food, plus a few neighbourhood cafés and bars. The Josef-Huber-Park is the nearest larger green space. The house itself does not stand on the loudest edge of the quarter but set back a little from the big through roads.

This suits price-conscious travellers arriving by train, longer self-catering stays, and anyone who prefers the everyday side of a city to its show side. It does not suit a short city break in which every minute of the walk into the old town counts, travellers who expect a dense choice of restaurants outside the door in the evening, or anyone who feels uneasy in busy station quarters. The guide price is 70 to 100 euros a night.
