Server log files

When a page is called up, the web server automatically stores access data: the address requested, the time, the amount of data transferred, browser type and operating system, and the IP address. This data is technically necessary for operating and securing the website; the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in trouble-free, secure operation). It is not combined with other data and is deleted after a short time. The server is located in Germany.

Cookies and browser storage

This website sets no cookies for advertising or analytics purposes. That is also why there is no cookie banner — there would be nothing to consent to.

Two purely technical values are stored in your browser’s local storage, provided you use the function in question:

• hgp-mg-consent — remembers that you have agreed to load the interactive map, so that you do not have to click again on every page.
• hgp-expl — remembers whether you have switched on the explanations of the key figures.

Neither value leaves your browser, and neither contains any identifier of you personally. You can delete them at any time via your browser’s site settings; doing so withdraws your consent to the map.

Interactive map (Mapbox) — only after your consent

The map imagery comes from Mapbox (Mapbox Inc., 1701 Rhode Island Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036, USA). When the map is loaded, your IP address is transferred to Mapbox in the USA and an identifier is stored in your browser.

This happens only once you explicitly click “Load map” in the map area. Before that click, not a single request is made to Mapbox. The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR; Art. 49(1)(a) GDPR applies to the transfer to the USA. You can withdraw your consent at any time by clearing this website’s local storage in your browser.

Without consent the website remains fully usable: instead of the map imagery, a self-drawn overview map appears that shows every house, walking radius and place while making no requests to third parties whatsoever. Mapbox privacy policy: mapbox.com/legal/privacy.

Audience measurement (Matomo, self-hosted and cookie-free)

To improve the content, we measure anonymously which pages are called up. For this, Matomo runs on a server of our own (matomo.pletzenauer.com) — the data does not leave our sphere of responsibility and is not passed on to anyone.

The measurement is configured so that it works without recognising anyone:

• No cookies and no identifier in the browser (disableCookies). This is why the measurement does not require consent under § 165(3) of the Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021.
• The IP address is truncated before it is stored; drawing conclusions about a person is therefore not possible.
• “Do Not Track” is respected. If that setting is active in your browser, no measurement takes place.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in designing the website to meet demand).

Fonts

The fonts used (Fraunces, Inter, IBM Plex Mono) are held on our own server and are loaded from there. There is no connection to Google Fonts, and no IP address is transferred to Google.

Place data (OpenStreetMap)

The details of bars, parks, stops and sights come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). They were retrieved once and are held on our server. Calling up a page therefore makes no request to OpenStreetMap. Only when you click a place name does openstreetmap.org open in a new window — their privacy terms then apply.

Booking links

Buttons such as “Check availability” lead via the redirect service Stay22 (Stay22 Inc., Montréal, Canada) to the respective booking portal, currently Booking.com. The call is made only by your click; before that, no request is made to Stay22 or to the portal. In the process your IP address is transferred first to Stay22 and then to the portal, and their privacy terms apply: stay22.com/privacy. These are affiliate links from which we receive a commission if a booking results — see the imprint. They are labelled as advertising at every button.

Getting in touch

This website has no contact form and no comment function. If you write to us by e-mail, we process your details solely in order to answer your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and keep them only as long as is necessary for that.
