Stars tell you how a hotel is equipped. They tell you nothing about how far it is to breakfast, whether anything is still open in the evening, or whether the tram stops outside — and that is exactly what decides how a city break feels. This guide therefore measures the location: walking minutes to the Hauptplatz and to the nearest stop, and what actually lies within reach on foot.

Neither figure appears on any booking page. Nor are they a verdict on the hotels — the pricier one may well have the better room. They are the piece of information that is missing when you compare one price with another.

What is worth knowing before a booking and what no hotel page tells you: where "central" stops in Graz, which parking zone applies at which address, and which district still has something open in the evening.

No star ratings
Stars describe the fittings and are applied for by the hotel itself. For the question of where to sleep best in an unfamiliar city they say little — and for the question of how far it is to the Hauptplatz, nothing at all.
No guest reviews as a score
What guests report we read up on and write next to the hotel it belongs to. It does not feed into the overall score: passing off a figure made of other people's stars as our own would be a lie about where it came from.
No bought placements
No business can buy its way into this guide or out of it. The order comes out of the formula, and the formula is there for anyone to read.
No first-hand experience of the rooms
This guide rates the location, not the house: computed from address, coordinates and the surrounding place data, plus researched guest reports on noise, breakfast, cleanliness and check-in. Nothing here is said about rooms, beds, service or breakfast quality — we would not know.
