Quieter, cheaper, well connected.
Jakomini and Geidorf are markedly less touristy: more residential, more quiet, noticeably lower prices — and the Jakominiplatz, the interchange for almost every tram line, puts the rest of the city within a few minutes.

Up to three — same scale, same baseline
These two districts have little in common beyond the fact that they lie outside the historic core. Jakomini runs from the Jakominiplatz south-east out to the exhibition grounds and Liebenau. Geidorf lies to the north-east, is the university quarter, and is distinctly greener.
Eight of our 25 houses stand here — and between the best placed and the most remote lies the widest spread in our entire selection.
We count, for every house, what lies within a ten-minute walking radius. In this district that looks like this:
Both are the same district. That is not an error in the data but the structure of the city: towards the south, Graz turns into commercial and transport land, and it does so quickly.
For a booking that means: here the district name is worth even less than elsewhere. The address decides.
The Jakominiplatz is the central interchange of the Graz tram network. From here you can travel in any direction, and the old town is a few minutes away on foot. It is the most underrated hotel location in the city.
Around the Schönaugasse, the Grazbachgasse and the Dietrichsteinplatz is the most internationally varied cooking in the city — not as a concept, but grown that way: Café ABOL (Ethiopian, Schönaugasse 16), Chopan (Afghan, no. 12), Himalaya Masala (Grazbachgasse 35), Restaurant Mekong (no. 42), Bao Bar (Dietrichsteinplatz 16).
Further south lie the exhibition grounds and the Stadthalle on the Conrad-von-Hötzendorf-Straße / Fröhlichgasse axis, with the Messepark behind them. Right out in the south-east is the Stadion Graz-Liebenau, which has been called that again since 1 March 2026 and carried a sponsor’s name before.
The Augarten on the Mur is the largest green space in this part.
North-east of the old town. The Zinzendorfgasse is the most student-shaped street in the city: Geek’s Café (no. 25), Propeller (no. 17), Beanery Coffee (no. 20), Martin Auer (no. 29), Posaune (no. 34). Prices low, opening hours long — and outside term a good share of them are shut. The winter semester at the University of Graz begins on 1 October 2026.
There is more green here than in any other hotel district: the Stadtpark and the Burggarten on the edge towards the old town, the Leechpark and the Meranpark in the middle of the quarter, the university botanical garden in the north-east, and the tram line out to the Hilmteich.
Smaller museums for a particular interest are here too: the Hans Gross Kriminalmuseum (Heinrichstraße 18) and the Steiermärkischer Kunstverein Werkbund (Heinrichstraße 10).
At the interchange — the strongest location in the district:

Jakominiplatz 7. Budget price band, close to two hundred places to eat and drink within ten minutes, a few minutes’ walk to the old town and the tram outside the door. In our comparison the house with the best balance of price, location and surroundings.

In Geidorf and the north — quiet:

Conrad-von-Hötzendorf-Straße 60, right at a tram stop. “City” in the name says nothing about the location here: the old town is around twenty-five minutes away on foot.

Right out at the edge:
Evangelimanngasse 6, 8010 Graz
Evangelimanngasse 6, in the south-east towards Liebenau. The one house in our selection that does not work without transport: the old town is about three quarters of an hour away on foot. The right location for a stadium visit, not for a city break.
Yes, if you hold a ticket for the exhibition grounds or the stadium, if you want quiet and green (then: Geidorf), if you are staying longer and the price counts, or if you arrive by car — the approaches are straightforward here, and parts of the district lie in the Green Zone with no maximum parking time.
Rather not, if you are planning two days of sightseeing and end up at the exhibition grounds. In that case the location costs you two tram rides a day and an empty evening.
