The Amedia Luxury Suites stand in Evangelimanngasse, far out in the south-east of Graz, beyond the densely built quarters. Of all the houses in this guide, this one lies furthest from the Hauptplatz. The surroundings are a patchwork of post-war housing, commercial sites and the sports grounds around the Stadion Liebenau; there is no grown shopping street here.

One thing turns this edge-of-town position into an argument, and a very concrete one at that: the stadium. No house in this guide stands closer to the Stadion Liebenau stop — it is a few minutes on foot, while the next nearest house needs several times that. For a match or a concert in Liebenau this is the shortest approach in the whole guide, and afterwards nobody has to catch a tram.

Otherwise the location means something different in practice from what the map suggests. Everyday supply is covered: a Hofer is practically on the doorstep, a Lidl a few steps further, and the Anton-Lippe-Platz and the Harmsdorfpark are the nearest green spaces. The tram is within reach as well — the Stadion Liebenau/Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz stop is a short walk away, the Jauerburggasse likewise, and both connect to the centre via Jakominiplatz. What the area cannot offer is the evening: look for a bar in the radius and you will not find one. For eating it is enough for a handful of addresses — a burger place, an inn, a Japanese restaurant towards the Ostbahnhof — but it is a choice you get through in one stay.

In figures this is the shortest list of places in the guide: no other house has so few recorded addresses within walking distance. In practice that means you shop here rather than go out — for a longer stay, Hofer and Lidl are the more useful neighbours than any restaurant. The radius is not even exclusive: the PLAZA INN Graz Messe stands barely a quarter of an hour’s walk away, the two radiuses overlap, and the Japanese restaurant between them counts for both houses. So the two hotels on the southern edge of town share part of the few addresses there are out here.

Quiet in the narrower sense the address is not, despite its position on the edge: a through road runs close to the house, and the railway line is within earshot too. The estimate judges the area, not the house standing in it. What guests actually experienced is researched separately further down, and here it turns out markedly different.

This suits travellers with their own vehicle, appointments at the technical university, at the trade fair or at the stadium, longer stays with a kitchen of your own, and anyone who prefers distance from the centre to activity outside the window. It does not suit a city break: every trip into town is a ride, and anyone who wants to eat out on the spur of the moment has little choice here. The arrival is worth a thought too — from the Hauptbahnhof this is the longest way in the guide, from the Ostbahnhof considerably shorter. The guide price is 90 to 150 euros a night.
