The Hotel Daniel stands on the Europaplatz, the forecourt of the Graz main station. This is a transport location, not a residential one: station forecourt, bus station, tram loop and a multi-lane approach road all lie immediately in front of it. The old town is not in sight from here — it lies well to the east, beyond the Annenstraße and the Mur.

It shares the neighbourhood with two other houses from this guide: the Austria Trend Europa two minutes away on the ring road, the EKONO three minutes further west. The same shops, the same cafés, the same lines. One difference is measurable all the same, and it concerns noise: the street in front of this house is one class smaller than the ring road in front of the other two — but the railway line and the tram track run closer here than at either of them. Sleep badly here and it is rails you hear rather than cars. On price this house sits between the two: dearer than the EKONO, cheaper than the Europa. Weighing the three against each other means choosing the best connections here and giving up the lowest price.

Day to day this is a trade. Arrive by train and you step out practically opposite. Above all, though, this is one of the densest public-transport addresses in this guide: besides the Hauptbahnhof stop, Köflacher Gasse, Daungasse, Asperngasse, Esperantoplatz and the Remise on the Eggenberger Straße are all in the radius — from here you can reach almost anywhere without changing. Everyday supply includes Spar, Billa Plus and Hofer, plus a Filipino and a Turkish grocer; for eating there is Italian, Japanese, Sri Lankan and regional cooking, and a whole row of cafés and patisseries from the Aida to the Östa.

What is almost entirely absent here is bars: there is exactly one in the closer radius, and the nightlife quarter is elsewhere. Once the shops close, this square empties quickly without becoming quiet — the railway line runs close to the house, and so does the approach road. Green space exists, but not outside the window: the Metahofpark and the Wasserturmpark are a stretch away. What guests actually complain about is worth noting: the reports are about the house rather than about the square in front of it. It is set out further down. The estimate is no help with that distinction: it describes the square outside the door, not the room behind it.

This suits travellers arriving by train, short stays, anyone using Graz as a base for day trips, and business travel on a tight schedule. It does not suit a city break whose appeal lies in stepping out of the door in the evening and staying in the neighbourhood, and not guests looking for quiet — a station forecourt is in operation around the clock. The guide price is 65 to 110 euros a night.
