Aiola Living stands in the Landhausgasse, in the core of the Graz old town between Hauptplatz and Jakominiplatz. The Landhaus, the Zeughaus, the town hall and the Joanneum museum quarter are all within the tightest of circles. This is a pedestrian zone in the literal sense: the streets around the house were built for people rather than for cars, and the nearest larger through road is some way off.

In practice it means you will hardly ever need transport from here. There are tram stops at Hauptplatz and at the Joanneumsviertel, but most city-centre destinations are closer than either. The density of places to eat and drink is unusually high — restaurants, cafés and bars in three-figure numbers in the wider radius, from daytime cafés and regional cooking to Japanese and Latin American. Supermarkets, a chemist and an organic grocer are all within walking distance too. If you want to spend a weekend walking through Graz without a plan, this is the shortest possible starting point.

The price for that comes twice over. First in quiet: a lane in the middle of the nightlife quarter gets loud in the evening and at weekends, and deliveries start early. Second in money — with a guide price of 140 to 170 euros a night, the house sits well above the affordable core this guide is built around. The location suits short, dense city breaks, travellers without a car, and anyone who wants to stay on foot after dark. It does not suit guests who need quiet, families with an early evening rhythm, or travellers arriving by car who want to park near the door.
