The Austria Trend Hotel Europa stands on the Bahnhofgürtel, the ring road that runs past the main station. Together with the Hotel Daniel it is one of the two houses in this guide that are effectively on the platform — the difference is the side: the Daniel faces the station forecourt, this house faces the through route. The Gürtel has several lanes and carries traffic around the clock; the location is strong in transport terms and sober in atmosphere.

Booking here means choosing a house rather than a quarter. Within a three-minute walk stand three houses from this guide: this one, the Hotel Daniel on the forecourt and the EKONO further out on the Eggenberger Gürtel. They share the same supermarkets, the same row of cafés and pastry shops, the same stops — the surroundings barely separate them. What does separate them is the price: this is the dearest of the three, and that alone is why its overall score comes out weakest here. The location is not the reason.

Day to day the advantage is unambiguous. The Hauptbahnhof stop is practically outside the entrance, several lines run from there into the centre and beyond, and the walk to the train is short even with a suitcase. The basics are covered: Billa Plus, Spar and Hofer are all in the radius, alongside a strikingly dense row of cafés and patisseries — Granola, Aida, Östa, Annen Cafe — and restaurants serving regional, Italian and Japanese food. The Metahofpark is the nearest larger green space.

Two things fall away against that. There are hardly any bars in the immediate radius; the evening happens further east. And the walk into the old town follows the Annenstraße and crosses the Mur — one of the longer routes into the centre in this guide, and not one you take twice a day on a whim. The noise picture includes the railway line nearby as well as the Gürtel itself. What is calculated there is the surroundings, not the window — and on exactly that point the guest finding further down comes out considerably friendlier than the address.

For travellers by car the address offers something a station location rarely does: a partner garage with a lift running straight up to the lobby. Arrive after a long drive and you do not carry your luggage across a ring road. The price and the entrance are a line of their own further down this page.

This suits rail travellers, stays with appointments in different parts of the city, late-evening arrivals, and anyone who would rather have a dependable base than a beautiful address. It does not suit city travellers who want the old town outside the door, guests who want to stay in the neighbourhood in the evening, and explicitly not noise-sensitive travellers.
