The Hotel Das Weitzer stands on the Grieskai, at the point where the river comes closest to the old town. Formally this is the western bank of the Mur; practically it is the most central address you can have without living in the old town itself: Hauptplatz and Jakominiplatz are both on the other side of the bridge, but not far.

Day to day that means short routes in almost every direction. Trams stop at the Stadtbibliothek and at Südtiroler Platz, both practically outside the house, and from there the rest of the city is reachable without changing. The Kunsthaus lies upstream within sight, as does the Murinsel. The density of places to eat in the immediate surroundings is one of the highest in the city — regional cooking predominates, alongside cafés, patisseries and a marked number of bars and clubs. Supermarkets, a chemist and green spaces such as the Nikolaiplatz are in the radius as well. If you want to get by in Graz without transport, this location will take you a very long way.

The price for that is quiet. The house stands immediately on a busy embankment road, and the bar and restaurant trade around it does not finish early; together those make this one of the loudest locations in this guide. It suits travellers who want to do everything on foot, short and dense stays, and anyone untroubled by city noise. It does not suit light sleepers, families with small children who go to bed early, or anyone looking for a quiet retreat with a view of greenery. The guide price is 70 to 160 euros a night, and so varies widely.
