The NH Graz City stands on the Karmeliterplatz, in the north-eastern part of the old town. The square lies away from the major axes, between the administrative and palace buildings of the upper centre and the Stadtpark. Anyone picturing Graz as a pedestrian zone full of shops will find that a stretch further west; here it is more institutional and quieter.

Day to day this is an address very well served on foot. The Stadtpark with the Burggarten begins just behind the square and is the obvious link towards the university quarter. Museums, galleries and the well-known double spiral staircase in the Burg are in the closer radius, as is a very large number of restaurants and cafés — Italian, Thai, regional — and a whole row of bars that stay open late. The house itself does not stand on a through road, which in the old town is the exception. What is missing is the tram: the nearest stops are at the Hauptplatz and the Schlossbergplatz, both a noticeable distance away. The nearest larger supermarket is not around the corner either.

This suits travellers who want to combine museums, park and old town on foot, quieter evenings within walking distance of the nightlife quarter, and stays without a car. It does not suit guests who depend on public transport right outside the house, arrivals with a lot of luggage from the main station, or self-caterers who shop daily. The guide price is 80 to 110 euros a night.
