The Gästehaus Moßhammer stands in the Zinzendorfgasse in Geidorf, the street that links the university quarter with the Stadtpark. This is the most student-shaped part of Graz: the Karl-Franzens-Universität sits at the upper end, and in between come cafés, small restaurants and bookshops. The old town begins on the far side of the Stadtpark and is reachable on foot without being the immediate neighbourhood.

In practice this is a location with a very dense but very specific offer. Within the closer radius there are a good dozen cafés and as many places to eat, mostly Asian, Italian and quick — shaped by the local clientele rather than by tourists. The Leechpark is just around the corner, the Stadtpark a short stretch further, and towards the university come collections and institute buildings. The tram only stops at the Kunstuniversität and in the Merangasse, so at some distance; from here you usually walk into the centre. Supermarkets exist, but not many.

This suits travellers with university business, longer stays, anyone who prefers a lively everyday quarter to a backdrop of sights, and price-conscious guests who walk. It does not suit travellers with a full sightseeing programme and little time, guests who need a stop outside the door, and only conditionally those looking for quiet: a student quarter is busy in the evenings and during term. The guide price is 80 to 115 euros a night.

The rooms facing the courtyard are considered quiet. The family butcher’s shop is in the same building; guests report deliveries and work from around six in the morning. All around lies the student quarter near Sonnenfelsplatz. Ask for a courtyard room. The estimate is therefore corrected by −0,05 against location alone.
